EIT Food is a consortium of more than 50 partners from leading businesses, research centres and universities across 13 countries that has been selected by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) as the Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) in the agrifood sector. As one of the largest public-funded initiatives in the EU agrifood innovation space, the EIT Food KIC acts as a people-centric and resource-smart transformer of the European food system, driving consumer confidence and improving global health.
With this call, we are looking for experts who will be able to undertake a review of proposals submitted in response to the call for proposals for the Startup Launch Grants funding scheme (details are available here) with the submission deadline of 7 June 2020. In addition, we are looking for short-term business coaches to support entrepreneurs who have applied to Strand 1 with their route to market strategy and drafting the business plan.
EIT Food is working with a pool of external experts to assist with the following tasks:
• evaluation of project proposals submitted by entrepreneurs and startups;
• 1:1 discussions with shortlisted applicants to determine fit for the funding;
• to provide short term business coaching support as agreed between the funding recipient and EIT Food;
• assisting EIT Food by providing opinions and advice in specific cases (ad-hoc tasks).
The outline of the Startup Launch Grants funding scheme process and deadlines for entrepreneurs is listed below:
Competition opens 18 May 2020
Strand 1 application closes 7 June 2020
Application review and interviews 8-28 June 2020 (carried out by evaluators)
Outcome notification Week commencing 29 June 2020
Grant commences From 6 July 2020 (commitment from business coaches from this point forward)
Grant ends and reporting 31 Dec 2020
The desk-based review of proposals and subsequent interviews of shortlisted applicants will take place between June 8-28 with final outcome notifications send to all applications w/c 29 June 2020. Please ensure you are available to commit to this process and timeline as well as being available as a business coach should you match with one of the shortlisted applicants.
In addition, if you are interested in participating as an evaluator for the 2021 Business Creation project proposals (as outlined here) you can indicate your interest in this application also (please see ‘other’ section of the application).
Knowledge, skills and experience
Business Creation area is looking for experts with 15+ years of experience and proven track record in entrepreneurship, business creation, start-ups, acceleration/incubation and developing business plans with following profiles:
o founding/managing science and tech start-ups (experience in agri-food space is not mandatory but would be an advantage);
o supporting entrepreneurs and tech start-ups via University/business incubators, corporate or independent accelerators, especially to develop their technology/product road map and develop business plans.
All applicants should have a good command of English (proficiency level of C1 and above). Previous experience as a startup business coach is essential.
Application and Selection Procedure
The call is open to individuals with relevant experience. Please submit your expression of interest by 7 June midnight (CET) by filling the online application and attaching your CV.
Make sure to fully complete all sections. Areas of expertise and professional experience should be adequately detailed and documented. An application is considered complete once confirmed as valid in the online electronic system.
Independent experts shall be selected for inclusion based on the following criteria:
• Excellence: relevant expertise (50%)
• Experience: professional experience (20%), previous business coaching experience (10%);
• Complementarity: domains covered (20%).
Successful candidates will be notified latest by 10 June 2020. Only the experts whose expertise corresponds to the needs of the call will be contacted by EIT Food. This does not prevent the experts not included to apply to future calls for expression of interest. Inclusion in the database will be for a 3-year term, which can be renewed.
EIT Food will select from the database of evaluators to establish panels that will have a balanced composition in terms of various skills, experience, and knowledge, geographical and demographic diversity.
The personal data collected in the context of the present call will be processed in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 45/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2000 “on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data by the Community institutions and bodies and on the free movement of such data”.
