Overview
InfraBooster is a self-paced, modular training program designed for representatives of scientific organizations that own research infrastructures (RIs). The program provides capacity building and guidance in designing infrastructure-based services that could be offered to companies.
The program helps participants leverage existing assets, including commercially relevant research infrastructures, the expertise of research teams, and institutional knowledge.
InfraBooster will bring you closer to the industry, increasing the collaboration, international exposure and innovativeness of your institution, and help you establish a new source of revenue.
Participants will gain a common vocabulary and a deeper understanding of how research infrastructures can be utilized for science-industry collaboration. The program also helps in identifying viable infrastructures within an organization, allowing multiple research teams to engage in commercialization efforts.
This introductory module, InfraBooster Foundation, serves as a prerequisite for the advanced training program – InfraBooster Practitioner.
Upon successful completion, participants receive an EIT Label Certificate, confirming their accreditation in an educational program aligned with EIT standards.
Course outline
Introduction to InfraBooster certification pathways: knowledge, skills and competencies; benefits for participants and their organisations.
Leveraging research infrastructures (RIs) for knowledge transfer: the third mission of universities and public research institutes (going beyond teaching and research, societal contributions, knowledge transfer scenarios); making money from research at scientific organisations: technology transfer, spin-offs, contract R&D, analytical services and education and the opportunities for making money from commercial access to RIs; RIs of scientific organisations that open up opportunities for industrial collaboration and revenue generation: benefits, limitations and risks.
How to select research infrastructures (RIs) for knowledge transfer: identifiable, relevant and competitive RIs; looking for RIs differentiators; RIs as the basis for commercial strategy.
Programme structure
How is it delivered?
The InfraBooster Foundation program is available continuously throughout the year in an online, self-paced format.
Participants complete the course individually via the Kampus VLE platform, allowing for flexible learning at their own pace. The program remains accessible until the end of 2025, with no fixed start or end dates.
The program will be conducted in English – at least working knowledge is required.
InfraBooster Foundation is designed to be highly interactive, featuring a variety of learning methods:
>> Case studies – analyzing knowledge transfer opportunities and decision-making processes
>> Q&A materials – addressing key aspects of research infrastructure commercialization
>> Practical exercises – selecting and assessing R&D collaboration opportunities
Participants will explore case study, a fictional university faculty (FADES), and analyze:
>> Types of R&D activities and opportunities for industrial collaboration
>> Research infrastructures (RIs) – their unique characteristics and commercial potential
>> Target industries and customers that benefit from RIs
>> Revenue models for existing and planned RIs
